Grillin' at Thanksgiving! No Snow Here!

Hi Lynn, John Stanley here.  I don't have a story but I do have a good bbq sauce, here it is;

5 dried Ancho chili peppers

3 cups water

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/2 bunch cilantro

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

2 Tablespoons butter

1/2 cup black berry preserves

Clean and seed the peppers, make sure all seed are out.

Steep the peppers in 3 cups of hot water until tender, about 30 minutes.

In a blender, blend all ingredients until smooth.

Refrigerate and use as needed.

Important note;

This is a sauce that has to be cooked.  In its raw state, it does not taste like a BBQ sauce at all.  It should be brushed on in the beginning stages of grilling.  The sauce needs to caramelized to get its full affect and this can only be done while grilling.  About half way thru grilling stop putting sauce on the meat.  This sauce is intended to lock in the natural juices.  If you were to use this sauce after grilling it would not taste very good at all.  It must be cooked or used as a marinade.

It is great on all Beef, Chicken and Seafood meats.

Texan BBQ grill eating trash
No legs, no problem, just a little Texasn ingenuity by The Doyle Family
Here is a funny picture ... we call it our "Redneck BBQ" (we can do that since we live in Dayton!)  We went out to grill one day and when we moved the grill, the legs fell off!  Well, we didn't want change our plans, since Roger makes the best BBQ'd chicken and camp potatoes, so we used what we had ...  We did buy Roger a new grill for Father's Day, but we kept our redneck version so we can cook more chicken and potatoes!

We thought we would just have the picture for a funny memory ... now I hope we can make a few other people laugh!

Grilling story:  Years and years ago friends came over.  We spent our last penny to buy our

    honoree steaks.  Well, the boys had a few beers, a steak was turned over but instead of

    landing on the grill, it landed on the ground.   Oh well, pick it up and put it back on the grill.

    The girls will never know the difference.   (It did get grilled a little tooooo much!)
